If New York attracts so many visitors, it's simply because it's a very cosmopolitan city. Between the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Midtown (Manhattan)

The neighborhood located in the heart of New York City is the most expensive and also the most touristy. A quintessential place in the city, it houses the majority of the most famous sites:

  • The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
  • The Guggenheim Museum
  • Central Park
  • The Rockefeller Center
  • The Empire State Building

Upon arriving in this neighborhood, you will be immediately immersed in a luxurious atmosphere. It is here, indeed, that many wealthy families have settled, such as the Kennedys and the Rockefellers.

Greenwich Village, the bohemian neighborhood (Manhattan)

In a more bohemian style, Greenwich Village or West Village is a haven for artists, especially musicians. The neighborhood, once known for drug trafficking, has been home to many stars who settled there from the 1960s, including Bob Dylan.

The atmosphere is described as very European. The streets are less dense, more tree-lined, and dotted with small squares. The buildings are not very tall. It is also the birthplace of New York's gay culture: the first Gay Pride in New York took place in Greenwich Village in 1970.

For a touch of exoticism, Chinatown promises an Asian getaway without leaving the center of New York City. The shops and restaurants are steeped in Chinese culture. There are numerous Buddhist temples, and it's also an excellent area for shopping at affordable prices.

For a complete change of scenery in the heart of this historic neighborhood, stroll through its large avenues and tiny streets:

  • Canal Street, the main thoroughfare
  • Mott Street, lined with many restaurants
  • Pell Street, home to the Edward Mooney House
  • Doyer Street, another very typical small street

Cross the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and explore this neighborhood, now a haven for hipsters. You can shop at the famous flea market, Brooklyn Flea Market, or indulge in street food at the Smorgasburg market if you're a food enthusiast.

If you're a plant lover, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is absolutely stunning! Located near the famous bridge, Brooklyn Bridge Park offers more tranquility than Manhattan while providing a beautiful skyline view... Romanticism guaranteed! There are other pleasant parks in Brooklyn, such as Sunset Park, aptly named, or Prospect Park, more family-oriented.

It's also a paradise for street art! You'll find numerous art galleries and studios focusing on this theme, though the most interesting experience is exploring the streets of Bushwick directly.

Queens, between jazz and baseball

Queens is a neighborhood often described as "distinctive." Historically, it's where many low-income families lived. Unlike the rest of the city, it hasn't seen major architectural changes. It's also the most cosmopolitan borough of New York City. So many reasons why Queens is now a very interesting place to visit in New York!

Queens is the birthplace of the famous jazz musician Louis Armstrong. Jazz lovers can visit the eponymous museum, which is the house he lived in.

Finally, the neighborhood is best known for its sporting spirit. It's home to the Mets' stadium: the famous Citi Field for baseball. Queens is also where you'll find Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main court of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

In general, no matter which borough you're in, New York City is relatively safe within the United States.
