Punta Cana's most beautiful beaches

At the crossroads of the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, Punta Cana is the most famous seaside resort on the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. Vast stretches of white sand, coconut palms and warm, intensely colored waters: discover the Costa del Coco in all its splendor, through its most beautiful beaches.

Bávaro

A true Punta Cana postcard setting, Bávaro is an endless beach of fine sand and crystal-clear waters to the north of the airport. In addition to its remarkable rows of palm trees, it boasts several diving sites where you can admire idyllic seabeds, as well as the famous wreck of the ship "Astron". Showers, foot rinses, deckchairs and palm-leaf umbrellas are available to guests at the many resorts along the coast. Offshore, a coral reef allows guests to swim in peace. The fun continues on land, with zip-line or all-terrain vehicle rides to explore the surrounding nature.

Juanillo

Just a 15-minute drive from Punta Cana international airport, Juanillo beach offers miles of pristine beaches for a day's getaway. The warm, crystalline waters, varying shades of blue and immaculate white sand are just some of the features that make this site so inviting. Between swims, you can sample local specialties under an airy palapa or lounge on a wooden deckchair topped with a mattress. For your ocean adventures, sailboats and kayaks are available for hire.

Cabeza de Toro

Bordering a fishing village in the south of the Côte des Cocotiers, Cabeza de Toro beach is nestled in an authentic landscape, punctuated by colorful boats and fishermen's huts where fish are dried. Taking its name from its bull's head shape, this oasis is bathed in an Olympic calm, allowing you to better appreciate not only the surf, but also the cooing of black pigeons. Its crystal-clear, algae-free waters are a favorite with snorkelers. A wooden pontoon is the starting point for offshore excursions in traditional boats.

Macao

Located north of the Coconut Coast, between Arena Gorda and Uvero Alto, Macau Beach is the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Ranked among the world's top ten beaches by a specialist magazine, this little cocoon of tranquillity is ideal for horseback riding. Surrounded by steep cliffs covered in lush vegetation, the beach offers a magnificent turquoise cove at its western end, recommended for swimming. Here, you can enjoy lobster with your feet in the fine sand.

Arena Gorda

North of Punta Cana, near the Bávaro lagoon, Arena Gorda beach stretches out in a wide strip of fine white sand, fringed by coconut palms. Offshore, a rusty wreck washed up on the coral reef stands out. Like most of Punta Cana's beaches, you can enjoy a massage in one of the palm-leaf-roofed cabanas after a game of beach soccer or beach volleyball on the back beach. Diving enthusiasts will have the opportunity to admire the multicolored underwater fauna. Those who don't want to go diving can observe the seabed from a glass-hulled boat.

Uvero Alto

Forming a perfect semicircle of fine, clear sand, Uvero Alto beach represents another unusual corner of Punta Cana's north coast. With coconut palms as far as the eye can see on one side, and turquoise waters on the other, this untouched stretch of beach lends itself particularly well to walks and horseback rides. The absence of coral reefs makes the waters more turbulent. Some rocky areas are therefore off-limits to bathers, but perfectly suited to intrepid surfers. Further out, the landscape is dominated by an almost uninterrupted succession of sugarcane fields and orange groves.

Cabo Engaño

Occupying one of the most unspoilt areas of Punta Cana, just a few kilometers from the airport, this heavenly cove is a delight for vacationers in search of privacy. While its miles of fine sand are a natural invitation to idleness, its enchanting setting, with its crystal-clear sea and vegetation caressed by the sea breeze, invites romantic strolls. A variety of water sports are also available, including windsurfing, pedal-boating and kayaking.

To sum up, Punta Cana offers a host of places to discover, including Bavaro, Saona and Las Terrenas, where you can soak up the sun from your hotel or restaurant.
